It's official, basking temperatures no longer stand and fall is moving in fast. Which is great news for me given I have a ton of leftover fall pieces from last year which I never wore and a few trends I've been eyeing up ahead of the cold season. And to start off with my first outfit of the season I don't think I could have possibly chosen a more perfect trend: velvet!
Designers can't seem to get enough of this rich, luxe look for the season. But, I confess I've not always been a fan. I remember being a kid and seeing my mum wear all sorts of velvet pieces and never actually liking any of it but as with most of this year's trend, this is one that has come back stronger than ever and what do you know, with its modern twist and the gorgeous designs out there, I have been converted.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to wear velvet head to toe (although I did fall in love with a velvet suit I saw on the Cosmopolitan catwalk I attended last Friday) but injections of this pretty trend here and there are harmless and easy to pull off. When I saw this top at Zara (in Algarve, Portugal), I knew I had to have it. Not only does it look great under a tee for a more casual outfit, pair it with a black blazer and tailored pants, and you're off to a much more elegant night outing. Despite its very affordable price tag (£15.99), this is one of those items I know I will be wearing on repeat, shamelessly, so do expect to see a lot more of it here and on my Instagram (@pamella_scalfi).

The verdict is, Velvet is THE fabric of the season and you will be seeing a multitude of items in it, whether you're heading to the high street or something a little fancier. From tops like this one to pants, dresses and even shoes including boots and sandals, velvet is the fabric to bet all of your money on and have fun with.
Thoughts on the velvet trend? Have you gone shopping for any fall items yet?
