Fashion and Beauty Tips: Nailing Your Job Interview

To all recent graduates out there as well as anyone else currently after their dream job, let me start by saying that: I know exactly what you are going through! Interviews can be nerve-racking and job hunting is stressful. Having a killer CV (and cover letter!), knowing about the company you are interviewing for and being prepared for questions are all important. But have you thought of what to wear and how to do your make-up? First impressions are extremely important so you don't want to turn up looking nothing less than insanely professional and chic. Here a few tips I learned over the years, I hope you like it :)

Outfits
Job interviews are scary enough as it is so when it comes to dressing for them, make sure you feel comfortable in what you wear. You don't want anything 'screaming' too much fashion and it is totally ok for you to ditch the heels and opt for a nice looking pair of flats instead. The key is to look professional and not too over the top. Having said that, you can most certainly dress up or down a little depending on what job type you are going for. Always look age appropriate and make sure you are covered in key areas and that there are no distractions. You heard me, put the mini-skirt away! You shouldn't go for crazy jewellery, instead choose delicate earrings and necklaces. And whilst black is the obvious choice, don't be put off by wearing different colours; they can look just as good and professional.

Make-up
Interviews are not the place to try the latest beauty trends (heard of "strobing"? yh, none of that please). No blue eyeshadow, no winged eyeliner, and god-forbid no false lashes. Your best bet is a sheer and glowy finish, so choose your best BB cream or medium coverage foundation and go with that. You don't want to hide behind crazy amounts of make-up so avoid contouring or highlighting, and bright lipsticks. A natural look is what you should be aiming for; save the smokey eyes to when you are out celebrating your brand new job.

Hairstyles
Dealing with crazy hair is what I go through every morning. But for an interview you want it to look polished and frizz free, no matter how impossible that seems to be. Make sure your hairstyle is still you and that you are comfortable wearing it that way. You can't go wrong with a blowdry, low ponytails or side buns for example. Whatever works for you, just make sure it's neat and that it looks like you have made an effort.

Nails
Similarly, nails should look natural and not too bright. I personally would go for nude colours because I find that darker colours chip more easily and I don't need the stress of having to hide chipped nails through the whole interview. And if you choose to go with open toe shoes (which yes, are totally fine) don't forget to give your toenails some TLC also. Make sure you mani and pedi match (colour wise) and that your heels are also taken care of.

And above all, be yourself! I know it's tough out there but never give up, take a deep breath and give it your best shot. It took me 3 months to find something I would enjoy but your dream job could be just around the corner! Not sure where to look? Head over to City Calling to check out Jobs Online
Best of luck and thanks for reading beauties!

My Summer Wishlist

I am currently coveting a lot of things. Unfortunately for me, I have already spent way too much money this month so I see a few of these staying on my wishlist and my wishlist only for a little while. A girl can dream nonetheless, so without further ado, here are the items I need want in my life:

1. Michael Kors White and Rose Watch £149
I've had my current watch for a while now and I think it's time for a new one, I mean just look at how pretty this one is. It's feminine, summery, classy and eye-catching in this gorgeous rose blush colour. It is also covered in lots of sparkle, just the way I like it!

2. Smashbox Step By Step Contour Stick Trio £35
I keep hearing great things about these sticks and how they are so much easier to use than brushes because of the precision they provide. Reviews claim they are easily blendable and extremely handy. I'm not much of a contour person myself, but with this product I definitely think I could turn into one. Anybody ever tried these?

3. Aldo Wares Snake Gladiator Sandals £45
The lace-up gladiator sandal has had a strong hold on the fashion scene for quite a while, but it seems that this summer trend is coming back with a bang this year. I really want a pair, and I found these to be so different and fashionable. I'm not sure high knee ones are for me but these are everything I was looking for. Loving the snake effect and they would look so good with shorts and a cropped top for that beach summery look.

4. Ray-Ban Erika Sunglasses £103
Ray-Ban has been my go-to sunglasses brand for so long, their sunglasses are beautiful and of great quality. You can customise and personalise these just the way you like it; I must add this bad boy to my collection.

5. Cath Kidston Wheeled Cabin Suitcase | £115
Who says you can't travel in style! Cute and compact luggage is what I need for my upcoming summer holiday. Price is a little steep, but I hear CK is currently having a huge sale so I'm gonna go and check that out. Don't you just love anything Cath Kidston?

What is on your summer wishlist beauties? Let me know below.
Thanks for reading,

xoxo

S/S 2015 Trends: Kimono

Today's #lookoftheday post is all about the Kimono craze we have going on. It was a hot trend last summer, but this year the kimono has made an even bigger comeback! It's a fact: the kimono is THE essential item for the summer. It is one of the most coveted trends, and I think that is mostly due to how versatile this item is. You can basically wear this cover up over anything; jeans, skirts, dresses, shorts, cropped tops, literally anything! Wear it to the beach over your swimwear, or to the office over black jeans and you are sure to look nothing less than stunning and of course, trendy. Whilst it suits most body shapes, it is good to remember that the kimono does nothing for our figure. It makes our shoulders look slouchier so it may not be for everyone. But I personally couldn't care less about that! The beautiful touch of colour and sophistication by just throwing one on is totally worth it. I am going for that bohemian look this summer and what a better way to do that than by wearing this staple item. Here's my kimono look, enjoy!

Kimono: Matalan - Jeans: Gap - Heels: New Look
Sunglasses: Ray Ban - Necklaces: Matalan - Bag: Michael Kors

I love wearing this kimono over a plain black dress, but I chose to pair it with some ripped jeans instead for that elegant and yet casual look. My beautiful (and comfy I must add) faux suede red heels compliment the flower print on the kimono extremely well and I of course had to choose my favourite red lipstick (Kiko 908 True Red) to complete the look. The layered necklaces add a delicate touch and I love how easy and fun it is to pick different length pieces and play mix and match. The combinations are endless!

With more options than ever and at a huge price range, you’re bound to find a kimono suitable for your wardrobe and your wallet. Floral, maxi or fringed, you name it; they're the new hot thing and you definitely need one...or two...or a whole bunch! What do you guys think? Let me know below!

My Favourites: Sleek MakeUp #1

Starting a new series of posts called "My Favourites" for specific brands. I have way too much make-up so by doing this I hope to rekindle my love for some of my older products and maybe also wear them more. I personally enjoy reading lists like these, so I hope you like reading them here too! The first brand I pick is Sleek because they changed the way I looked at make-up a few years ago. I have been a big fan of their stuff for so long and I have tried my fair share of their products, so here are my top 5 picks.

Sleek MakeUp Face Form | £9.99
Shade: Fair. This is by far the best palette by Sleek in my opinion. The bronzer matches my skin tone perfectly and is matte, great for that subtle contour look. The blusher isn't as pigmented as it looks but I know I won't walk out of the house sporting bright pink cheeks and that is a win for me. And lastly, the holy grail of powder highlighters which gives me such a beautiful glow and lasts all day!

Sleek MakeUp True Colour Lipstick | £4.99

Shade is Mystic and if you are a regular reader, you will know of my undying love for purple lipstick. I don't really know why this is the only lipstick I have from this collection but I definitely want more. The colour is beautiful and the texture is heavenly. The finish is truly matte and I find this to be one of the most long lasting lipsticks I own!

Sleek MakeUp Brush Set | £12.99
My first ever make-up brush set! The foundation brush is way too small but the blush, eye shadow and eye contour brushes more than make up for it. I have washed these numerous times and not one single hair has come loose. They are amazingly sturdy, great for everyday use and ideal for beginners!

Sleek MakeUp i-Divine Eyeshadow Palette Au Naturel | £7.99

The eyeshadows are pigmented and gorgeous, and you can create various different looks with just this one palette. Shadows are a mixture of shimmers and mattes and there's very little fall out. I confess I have neglected this a little since getting my Nakeds, but I still think it is a must have nude palette.

Sleek MakeUp Matte Me Lip Gloss | £4.99

This is Birthday Suit and even though I recently reviewed the whole Matte Me collection (see here), I couldn't not include it in this list. This marsala shade is very trendy (colour of the year!!!) and I feel like Kylie Jenner when I have it on. 3 words: Perfectly plumped lips!

What are your favourite Sleek products? Thank you for reading!

S/S 2015 Trends: Floral & Denim

I wore this gorgeous floral dress over the weekend and I absolutely love the floral trend we have going on this season. The idea of florals for summer has never felt fresher; wear it to a wedding, to work or to a picnic, versatility is the key! Whether the prints are small and abstract or bold and beautiful, this sunny season flowers are so chic and feminine and definitely here to stay!

Now, are you also a denim lover like myself? Then you'll mostly likely want to wear denim all season long and luckily, there are lots of fresh new trends out there, from denim jumpsuits to cute denim dresses and short shorts. Chances are your wardrobe is in desperate need of an update (just like mine was), so why not pick up something new and something blue and be right on trend this season. One plus one makes two, so here is my attempt in putting both trends together, I hope you like it!

Floral Dress: Primark - Denim Jacket: Matalan - Bag: Michael Kors
Sunglasses: Ray Ban - Studded Heels: Jojo Cat

Summery, pretty and comfy are all adjectives that describe this outfit! Whilst the dress is girly and feminine, the jacket and the studded heels make the look more edgy and casual, perfect for when you want to look nice but not too over the top. I wore my new MK in my last outfit post (see here) but I couldn't not use it for this look too. Its bright pink shade compliments the floral print on the dress extremely well and what can I do, I'm a sucker for that extra pop of colour (as if this outfit wasn't already vivid enough). I'm wearing the Mary Kay Sassy Fuchsia lipstick (review here) and on my nails I have the Neon Fest polish by Rimmel London (review of the collection here). Definitely went pink crazy with this one but I really like how the whole thing came together, what do you guys think?

Thanks for reading beauties and until next time.

My Blog Makeover

Let's start off the weekend in style! If you are a regular reader you will notice something slightly different about my blog. That's right, I finally caved in and the blog has had an overnight makeover done! I decided it was time for a new template to polish things off a little, and after seeing so many blogs that I myself enjoy reading using Pipdig templates, I chose the one I loved the most and here we are! I was never too pleased with how my blog looked, hence the various changes some of you may have witnessed in the past few months. I kept changing the background, the font, adding accents and dividers here and there, but it was never quite how I wanted it to be. Pipdig's premade templates are relatively cheap and nice looking; it was finally time! It wasn't easy picking just one template because there are so many beautiful ones available, but I decided to go with "Little Lady" which is a subtle, fresh and slightly girly template. Originally the accents were a pinky colour, but Pipdig being the great company that they are changed the colours to suit my needs and to match my branding (I loveeee purple and you can totally tell!). I decided to stick to my old logo because I'm extremely attached to it but that's a story for another blog post. Here's the Before and After:

Before:

After:

I love how responsive this template is and how great it looks on different gadgets. Everything has its place and all of my widgets look so much neater, and to me that's a massive win. The installation process was super duper quick (and FREE!) and the famous Phil adjusted things just as I wanted them. I, of course had a billion questions but everything was done so timely and I am extremely impressed! I couldn't be more pleased with the result and if you are thinking of changing things up a little and investing in a nice looking template, Pipdig is the place for you to go. The service and the product are both outstanding, and the result is a more professional yet girly looking blog just like mine. This is not a sponsored post, I just had to share my opinion with you beauties. Reading so many great reviews certainly helped me in taking this extra step, so I hope this helps you too!

What do you guys think? Thank you for reading and enjoy the weekend!

The Festival Edit Glossybox: June 2015

This month I received Glossybox number 2 and I was quite looking forward to it after my first box last month (which I loved and you can read more about it here). I have to confess I love the actual box all the lovely products come in. These pretty pink boxes make perfect storage for all the bits and bobs I have laying around. Now, June's theme is festival/beach season and despite the cold and windy weather we are having (boooo London), some of these goodies are quite nice. Here are the products I received and I hope you enjoy reading!

MONU Spa Rosewood Reviving Mist | £11.95
Despite its odd smell, I quite like this product and wish we got more than a sample. It claims to freshen up your dull, stressed or flushed skin and it does exactly that. Its ingredients include lemon, rosewood and geranium which are great to keep the skin looking fresh and hydrated. I particularly like how this suits all skin types, so even my at times sensitive skin can handle it. Better yet, this can be used to set make-up in place so definitely one I will be keeping in my handbag to use throughout my very long work days.

Halo Fragrance Free Facial Wipes | £1.20
These wipes do come in handy being travel sized and all, and they would be perfect for taking on a weekend away and keeping in your make-up bag. Having said that, I feel like Glossybox didn't try hard enough with this one; it's cheap and not many Glossies were pleased, rightfully so. We want to try new exciting make-up brands, so no more face wipes that we can easily get in drugstores, deal?

Kueshi Anticellulite Booster | £14.55
Unlike those wipes, this is my favourite item in this month's box and it is full sized! Having recently lost some weight (read my weight loss journey here), I find myself suffering from cellulite on the back of thighs so this could not have been a better pick for me. I have only used this for 3 days now, applying in the morning and at night, and whilst it is too early to notice any positive results, I like how it nourishes my skin really well and it is not at all sticky like most anti-cellulite creams are. This is also Parabens Free which is always plus! You did good with this one Glossybox.

Glossybox Flash Tattoos | £6.50
Exclusively designed for us Glossies, these faux tattoos are a trendy accessory for summer. The designs are gorgeous and I particularly like how they look on your wrists and ankles, although not sure about those Glossybox logos they included there. Even if I don't wear them all, they can easily be used on some sort of DIY and perhaps even on nail designs. Let the creativity flow!

Essence The Gel Nail Polish | £1.71 Shade: "18 I don't care".
Another cheap product, and even though this is the second Essence product Glossybox has sent me, I'm quite looking forward to trying it out. I would have preferred the blue shade because I have way too many red polishes as it is. But this is quite similar to Fifth Avenue by Essie which is my favourite polish of all time so maybe a cheaper dupe has come my way. I just hope this really does last all week on my nails because I know Essie never disappoints.

Verdict: I'm keeping my subscription. The monthly plan is only £13 including p&p and I quite like having something to look forward to every month. I would say that I like this month's box, but I don't love it. Here's hoping that next month's is better and perhaps includes more make-up items given that the theme will be "French Beauty". Wouldn't mind if they threw a perfume in there too. A girl can dream, can't she?! Also trying out Birchbox next month so very excited about that! Anybody sub'ed to that?

Thanks for reading beauties and enjoy the rest of the week!

S/S 2015 Trends: Printed Trousers

It has been a few days since I last blogged; I was too busy outside enjoying the sun. Isn't it beautiful? The London weather has finally agreed that it was time to get warmer and sunnier and even though we are not up to Spain temperatures yet, I am already loving being able to step out of the house wearing nothing but a t-shirt. Speaking of sunny weather, if there is one thing I always wear during the hotter months, that thing is printed trousers. I love how fun they look and how they manage to instantly pull the whole outfit together. They were right on trend last summer, but in 2015 printed trousers are what I will be reaching for when I want something more relaxed for a day out for example, but also for a more casual chic look. Let's face it, wearing jeans on a hot day is a big no no; they stick to your skin and make you sweat in places that you didn't even knew you could. If you are like me and rely on public transport every day, you will know exactly what I am talking about here. Printed trousers are easy to wear and extremely comfortable; pair it either with a white or black cami (of course you are not limited to these two colours only) and you are ready to go. Today I chose to pair my black and white printed trousers with a gorgeous black cami and some heels for a touch of elegance. I love the result and I hope you will too!

Cami: New Look - Printed Trousers: Matalan - Shoes: Philip Armstrong
Bag: Michael Kors - Necklace: Matalan - Sunglasses: Amazon

I really love how my gorgeous pink Michael Kors bag added some colour to this monochrome look. If you want a comfortable yet elegant look you can bet on this crucial piece of clothing we should all have in our wardrobes. What are your thoughts on printed trousers? Let me know below! Thanks for reading and see you beauties soon!
