Think Pink: How To Wear The Season's Trickiest Eye Colour

A few years back I wouldn't dare to wear pink clothes, let alone pink eyeshadow. Fast forward a few years, my style has definitely had a turn towards being more feminine and cute and what could be more feminine and cute than a touch of pink. Which is why when Pantone announced the colours of 2016 I was rather pleased to hear Rose Quartz was the colour I'd be seeing more of this year. I instantly knew how to put together a Rose Quartz and Serenity Outfit, but the question that remained was how to apply this trend in a make-up look.
When Rach from rachelshuchatmakeup.com got in touch for a collab we put our thinking hats on and instantly decided to come up with a wearable pink eyeshadow look (because blue serenity is still very out of our comfort zone) that was both easy and well, usable. Pink eyeshadow may be fun, feminine but it's also a little scary, and I'm sure the question you're asking yourself is whether you'd be able to pull it off. The answer in short is yes but with a few rules of thumb, you will be wearing pink eyeshadow this spring in no time and in the best suitable way for your skin tone, so let's discuss.

1. When it comes to skin, there's a shade for everyone but medium skin tones are definitely most versatile. Light pinks are an easy way for a super-subtle look that is ideal for the faint-hearted as it will not come up too boldly. Neon pink and fuchsia are vibrant enough for those with darker skin and, if you like me have fair skin, we can bet on rose gold to warm up the complexion. Keep this in mind when choosing your blusher.

2. On the other hand, when picking the right shade of pink eyeshadow remember the colour spectrum. Brown eyes can pretty much wear any tone of pink eyeshadow which is great news for my brown eyed readers. If you have green eyes, purple is the opposite colour in the spectrum and therefore they accentuate each other best. A hint of purple will make your green eyes pop yielding a mesmerizing look. And finally, baby-blue eyes work in the same way as fair skin tones; warmer rose gold tones are your safest bet as this shade will deepen the look and make your eyes stand out more.

3. And finally, when dealing with pink eyeshadow it is important that we create some eye-defining depth. Our waterline already contains natural pink tones so defining the eye shape is indispensable. For this, plenty of mascara and a black pencil along the waterline to knock out the pink there are ideal.

With all of these in mind, I create the above look with the following products:

Eyes & Lips:

- Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Eyeshadow Palette (review here): Shades Harajuku (Metallic blue-pink with iridescent micro-shimmer) & Blackout (Blackest black matte)
- Next Make Me Beautiful Purple Eye Shadow Quad* (all shades)
- Collection Gel Eyeliner
- Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara (review here)
- Bellápierre Super Gloss: Shade Raspberry

Skin:

- Vichy Dermablend Foundation*: Shade Opal
- Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer: Shade Fair
- Vichy Dermablend Loose Powder*
- Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Blush Palette (review here): Shades Easy (Deep rose with gold shimmer), Lo-Fi (Soft Bronze Matte) & Angel (Champagne-nude shimmer).

Tell me, will you be trying this pink eyeshadow trend this spring?

  2. I chose some pink shadows for my spring makeup challenge and have been wearing rose gold so far. I make sure to pair it with black liner though, to look less like I have been crying.

  6. I have shied away from pink because I don't know how to wear it, but what you have done is absolutely stunning. I love how it's subtle and not too bold and in your face.
You make me want to try pink but I think I'd have to see it on someone of my skin colour, before I take a leap lol.
