Winter 2016 Fashion Trends: Metallic Skirt & Knee High Boots

Shine bright like a diamond; sorry I had to go there! Let's agree, metallic was one of the biggest trends for fall and this winter, it is not going anywhere. Anything that shines and sparkles is particularly hot at the minute given party season is officially upon us and what better time to experiment with pieces you wouldn't normally wear than right now. It seems like every single designer has sent his models down the runway in some sort of version of space-girls, form super refined and high fashion-minimal to more edgy grungy takes of this metallic new look. And to think we've got the 80s to thank for this metallic revival; everything is coming back but bigger than ever!

If you told me I'd be sporting a metallic skirt a few months back, I would have laughed and then laughed some more. But what goes around comes around, and after my first metallic purchase with those silver trainers I wore continuously and which are all over my Instagram feed, I saw this skirt at Matalan (where else) and thought I'd take a chance. I confess, it sat in my drawer with the tags on for about two months but I finally had the guts to take it out for a spin and guess what, I freaking love it!

So how does one wear high shine and metallic, I hear you asking. And the major tip I have for you is to keep things balanced. Don't go all out on metallics or sparkles but instead mix it with a totally different style and fabric. For example, for the daytime a pair of metallic bottoms will go nicely with a simple white or black tee and trainers. The classic pleated metallic pleated skirt with a tee and white trainers is a great way to get started. On the other hand, for the evening you can go a little wilder and mix like-fabric pieces for the ultimate sophisticated outfit. But, if this all sounds too much for you why not opt for metallic details such as gorgeous metallic nails, make-up, bags, shoes and jewellery. 

Metallics aren't completely effortless to wear, hence my all black ensemble which I couldn't possibly go wrong with. But for someone who wouldn't dare to be seen in a metallic clothing piece, I am absolutely in love with the trend and anything from metallic to sparkle and sequins, for both daytime and evening, are definitely getting major thumbs up from me.

And because I am obsessed with all the pretty boots this season, I finished the look with the newest addition to my boots collection. This pair is real leather and it only cost me £40 in the sale; amazing bargain or what! These are high knee boots and I am loving how comfy and sleek they look!
