Summer Capsule Wardrobe: 5 Tops You Need To Own

With summer season in full swing and in spite of temperatures being mediocre for this time of year, I've been working hard to get my everyday wardrobe in order and updated for summer. And what best way to be doing that than by adding pretty yet effortless tops to the repertoire. If you are looking for an effortless capsule collection that keeps you covered for all occasions, whether we are talking about evening outings or casual day-wear, these are the simply must-have tops for the season. Remember, trends come and go, and whilst my wardrobe also currently contains a lot of off-shoulder and cold-shoulder pieces, these are the truly essential tops. Having one of each in your wardrobe is guaranteed to make outfit matching a whole lot easier, so what's not to love? Keep on reading to find out more.

WHITE T-SHIRT

Let's get the obvious one out of the way. A white t-shirt is essential, not just for summer but all year round. A good quality piece will last ages, so probably wise to invest in something a little more expensive than Primark. Plain white t-shirts keep the style comfy and go with pretty much anything in your wardrobe, and those with pocket-detailing really add an extra touch of sporty, something I personally love.

BRETON 

Varying a little from white and going for stripes instead, because you know I've been loving stripes this season. These are widely popular during spring, but there is no good reason you can't wear them during summer too. Worn under a leather jacket or tucked into denim shorts, the Breton is a must-have and you will find it to go with anything. Opt for thin, cotton, short-sleeved for a stylish version of this classic look.

STATEMENT T-SHIRT

You see where I'm going with this? T-shirts are very IN this season and nothing says cool like a statement t-shirt. I confess I have a few of these and I rotate them continuously because I'm obsessed. There is no right or wrong when it comes to statement tees. Go with your favourite colour, maybe a cool quote or picture even; the bolder the better! Team with black skinnies for date-night or denim boyfriends for a more relaxed vibe for the weekend.

DENIM SHIRT

This is truly such an useful piece. The denim shirt paired with jeans for bold double-denim (which I created here), or layered over a summer dress really adds an edgy take on sexy. It is also cooler than a denim jacket making it perfect for summer nights if you need a lightweight layer. The reason to add one to your wardrobe right now if you haven't yet; it adds an instant touch of effortless cool to any look. Similarly, a shirt like in the first picture works well too!

BLACK CAMI

or any other colour really. A simple satin cami is an easy thrown-on piece bound to leave you looking nothing less than chic and sexy. For work team with high-waisted culottes and heels, or with skinny jeans and a cardi for a more a casual take and when the weather a little chillier than usual.
