Thigh-high footwear is back in fashion this season, and once they start appearing (quite literally everywhere) you will know the chilly season is ever nearer. They are a great way to keep warm through autumn and winter, add that extra kick to an outfit, and be right on trend. However, over-the-knee-boots have not always had the best reputation. Personally, I did not think I would ever own a pair as these can be often associated with Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman - or even Puss in Boots.
But as seen on the catwalk with the likes of Chanel, Valentino and Jimmy Choo, the OTK trend is shaping up to be the one to watch for AW15. As with any trend, choosing the right piece is a must. To avoid looking like Julia Roberts, rule out that patent leather pair and opt instead for materials such as suede or matte leather in neutrals shades of black, grey, brown and nude. This will make styling these babies a lot easier.

Styling these seems easy after a long inspiration session on Pinterest, but in real life they are a little trickier to pull. "What do I wear with these boots", I hear you asking me. The answer: proportion is the key! Keep the lower half simple and opt for oversized layering on the top half. Over-the-knee-boots work well with skirts or dresses; wear them bare legs (if the skirt isn't too short), or with opaque black tights; and over skinny jeans too. And yes, I will admit that they don’t always agree with the rest of my wardrobe and can be sometimes challenging to wear, but that does not mean you should not own a pair. They are a bold yet worthy trend and best of all, no matter your body type, if styled right these can suit everybody.
Will you be stepping up your footwear game this winter with OTK boots?
