Your Complete Guide To This Season's Best (& Hottest) Coats

Winter is on the fast approach, the days are getting shorter, natural light is becoming scarce and before we know it, temperatures will barely be reaching two significant figures, fun huh! Whilst I don't particularly enjoy having frozen hands, toes and nose I always look forward to winter so I can buy myself a new coat (not that I really need another but #shopaholic). With dropping temperatures, it's time to ditch the capes, blanket scarves and trench coats we were getting away with until now and opt instead for something a little warmer, ready for the snow that is on the way (apparently Britain is going to face its coldest winter in a good number of years, yikes!). Here is a concise list of the hottest outwear options for you this winter; you're welcome! :)

THE MINIMAL COAT

Perfect for this time of year, this simple and minimal coat is ideal for anywhere, anytime. It is classic and modern, and best of all the outfit combinations are endless, whether you're after a more casual getup or something a little more polished and chic. Pair it with striking colour to make a statement or keep it within the neutral palette for a stylish finish. What do you think of this one?

THE TWEED COAT

Perfectly British don't you think? Classic tweed never truly goes out of style but this season it is once again having its moment in fashion. It can be rather masculine so the key is to pair it with some colour or florals for a feminine twist. Tweed is effortless and you simply cannot go wrong with it! In love with this coat here.

THE CAPE

A cape makes a bolder statement and sometimes, on a very cold day that is the exact boost your outfit needs. Needless to say, it is a great addition to your wardrobe as it proves easy to wear and you can bulk up and wear all the cosy layers you desire under it. Plus, doesn't it look exceptionally chic? If you're after one, Asos has some really cool capes at the moment!

THE TIE-BELT COAT

Has winter ever looked so comfy? The tie-belt is perfect for creating a waisted silhouette; it is figure-flattering if you keep lightweight layers underneath. For the ultimate classic go for a camel shade, it is super glamorous but at the same time comfy and cosy! Banana Republic has some really great ones like this here.

THE MILITARY COAT

Personally, my favourite kind of coat given it is super easy to pull off. Not only do the buttons add an extra touch, navy and khaki are faultless shades to go for this winter. Combine it with a pussy bow garment for some 70s vibes or try it with a rollneck and bootcut jeans for a super sleek outfit. Good news, the high street is inundated with all sorts of military coats so you're bound to find something you like! I LOVE this offering from Matalan, here.

THE PUFFA

I briefly talked about this here and whilst the consensus was that they were not the most flattering, they were surely the warmest, ideal for those really cold days (or for that ski winter trip you have booked haha). Seen all over the catwalks from the likes of Louis Vitton and Balenciaga, the puffas are making a chic comeback this season! Pair it with evening wear and you have a fresh and unpredicted pairing.

THE SHEARLING COAT

Shearling has had a makeover and it is hotter than ever, besides who doesn't love furry clothing? Weighty and rugged, this is guaranteed to keep you warm no matter how low the temperature outside is! Check out this stunning shearling jacket from Matalan here, NEED!

THE LEOPARD PRINT

Back and bigger than ever, not just in coat form too! I talked about the trend in my Burgundy & Leopard Print post and I am so excited to get my coat out of the closet and out for a spin! The key is to keep the rest of the outfit minimal and colour neutral. How gorgeous is this piece?!

Phew, that was a long list...if you've made your way to the end, thanks so much for reading!

  5. Oh em gee I would love all of those coats. I have a tie one that can be turned into minimal if the tie belt is taken out. But I do think that minimal would have to be my favourite. It's so chic and classic.

  21. I love getting coats and having many different styles... I think the minimal style is my fave from above. I have a camel one I'm wearing this fall. Unfortunately I am limited to wearing my super un-fashionable big poofy snow coat all winter, haha!
