The Kylie lip kits are selling like hot cakes and on three occasions
I tried purchasing them only to be told at the checkout that my products were
no longer available and had been sold out. Typical. Needless to say, I have now
given up because no one should go through that much effort for a beauty
product. Instead, I decided to stick to what I know best and avoid purchasing something
so hyped (which from the reviews I've read I probably wouldn't have liked that much
anyway).
On a recent clear-out, old liquid lipsticks that looked and
smelled funny were tossed and I found myself lacking in that department. A Boots
trip was obviously in order and whilst I originally only wanted an orange/red
summery shade, I stumbled across these beauties and left with 3 new shades, because
one can never have too many lip shades.
Maybelline
Vivid Matte Liquid Lipsticks by Color Sensational (£6.99) are described as
vivid matte pigments that give a high-impact colour for a velvety matte finish,
in a comfortable, creamy formula. I don't know about you, but for a dry lip
kinda girl like me this sounded like music to my ears. The range, containing 8
available shades (10 in the US) is part of the Maybelline Spring 2016
Collection and is the first matte liquid lipstick collection I am more than happy
to wear all day, every day. Someone has finally answered my make-up prayers because these are
comfortable to wear, look amazing and last long, and most importantly aren't drying or
tightening! Each square tube contains
0.26oz of lipstick and the flexible, slanted tip applicator is designed to
easily contour and shape the lips. I find that the wand saturates well with
colour and really does make application as easy as 1 2 3.
On my lips, the colour doesn't settle into fine lines and it looks always fresh, even and smooth. Duration is around 4/5 hours with drinking but no eating, and even when I eat the colour does not crack but rather fades nicely into a stain. Pigmentation really is on point with these, and a single layer is more than enough but if you wanted to, coverage is totally buildable as the formula never really sets dry (making it transferable; a turn off for some). I find the formula to be non-flavoured but it does contain a floral scent that is quite strong at first, but I've gotten used to it.
50 Nude Thrill: Warm Beige Nude
05 Nude Flush: Pink Rose Nude
25: Orange Shot: Bright Bold Orange
To Recap…
Pros:
✓ Velvety, mousse-like texture feels comfortably smooth.
✓ Richly pigmented, versatile shade range.
✓ Well-designed applicator makes easy application.
✓ Leaves an even stain of colour as it wears off.
✓ Long wearing.
Cons:
✖ Semi- matte, so the name is misleading.
✖ Transfers upon contact.
✖ Strong floral scent.

All in all, I am loving the reinvention of matte lipsticks in the drugstore world and I am really glad to see something that works well for us with lips on the drier side. The Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid may not be for everyone, especially if you are looking for the usual matte finish that doesn't budge, but they are perfect for me and I can’t wait to wear them more in the upcoming months. I never thought I would wear “matte” lipsticks in the winter but thanks to this formula, I totally can. They aren't perfect and they could do without the strong scent, but the pros outweigh the cons and the easy application and wear, the velvety formula have won me over, plus at £6.99 each (and thanks to the current offers at Boots) these hardly break the bank.
What do you think of the shades I picked up? Have you tried these? Let me know below!
Thanks for reading beauties!

I actually ended up getting my hands on one of the lip kits, and I must say that there are several great dupes on the drugstore market. My favorites are the ones from NYX and Revlon, but these definitely sound really lovely too, even though they only dry semi-matte (:

Wow these sound like a dream especially since I am anti anything that's drying. The colours look great on you too. Maybe I'll check them out.

These liquid matte lipsticks sound so interesting, I will be surely getting at least one, as I am scared of drying lipsticks and need something more comfortable on my lips, great review Pam =) Kisses

My obsession with lipsticks is a bit crazy so now I'm going to have to add these matte lipsticks to them. From what I've heard from friends, don't bother wasting your money on Kylie's lip product. They've all said its almost identical to Colourpop and that they actually prefer the Colourpop lipsticks.

I had a major purge of my lipstick collection too so I went from 200plus to only 90 lipsticks recently and have been itching to purchase more to makeup for it. Glad you like this, Pam, I've read so many mixed reviews on them hence I gave them a miss.

ReplyDeleteI think I prefer fully matte lips but I'm sure I'll be adding these to my collection next time I'm in Boots..

I must admit, I am more of a fan of the super matte lip colours that don't budge, however these shades do look gorgeous. I particularly love the shade Pink Rose Nude but they actually all look great on you.

I am not one for the moisture sucking versions as well, but the strong scent some Maybelline lip products have can put me off. I think I will have to sniff them first.

Yeah, I heard the Kylie lip kits were pretty drying so I'm not all that bummed about not being able to get them. I don't mind semi-matte lipsticks since I find them much more comfortable to wear. Also love the fact that it stains! I hate when matte lipsticks crumble off XD All three colors look gorgeous on you :)

They look great! I don't think we have them here in my country yet. I've been wanting a matte lipstick for a long time!

I really like the look of the pink shade, although it is slightly disappointing that they don't dry completely matte like the name suggests! x

Hi, dear Pam, I am a bit "sick" (just a cold, but it knocked me out this time),so I apologise not having come here before! I think you are right - if Kylie's lipstick/gloss is so hyped and out of the market, why not sticking to what you know, and not sold out? I like Maybelline very much and I think these lipsticks are great. I do prefer semi-matte, so not matte at all, then it would be good for me, not misleading. I liked number 5 really a lot! Hope you have a very nice weekend!

Hello,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors ! :D
Sarah, http://www.sarahmodeee.com/
Well, it's impossible to deny it: the Kylie effect is real. I still don't own any matte liquid lipstick yet but I love the idea! It sounds like something new and refreshing. You got some pretty lovely shades and yes, based on the photos they don't look 100% matte but it's still a nice finishing (although they should state that first). Looking forward to give them a try!!

All of these shades look absolutely stunning on you gorgeous! Needless you say, I have to have the nude shades.:D But I completely get what you mean about how difficult the process is, with purchasing the Kylie Lip Kits. These Maybelline ones sound amazing though, especially the fact that they don't settle in fine lines. I really want to try these, I can actually see how soft and hydrating they look on your lips too.
