Make Me Beautiful: Next's Own-Brand Beauty Range

Back in March, Laura, Hanna and I attended the Next Beauty Event at the Ice Tank in London and it was such a fab night. The event featured Blogger and YouTuber Lydia Elise Millen who demoed a few Next beauty products and created day and night looks using their products (if you want to read more about the event itself, see Laura's post here and Hanna's here). At the end of the night we were each given a goodie bag containing their newest releases and having tried them these past few weeks, I thought I'd share my opinion on them with you guys!

To be honest, I had not previously heard of Next's own make-up collection (having only seen their fragrances around) but I'm happy to now have tried my fair share because there are some real gems in there, gems I never would have tried otherwise. The range, named Make Me Beautiful is quite extensive, containing anything from lipsticks to eyeshadow palettes as well make-up bags and brushes. Additionally, the brand is designed and developed in the UK, not tested on animals and contains natural plant waxes! My goodie bag containing a variety of their products so here we go.

The gorgeous Make Me Beautiful Purple Eye Shadow Quad* (£7.50) has to be my favourite of the bunch. For my Think Pink: How To Wear The Season's Trickiest Eye Colour this is the palette I went with and despite not being the most pigmented eyeshadows I own, I think they work better that way given they are bright shades and you don't want them to look "too much". They blend well and I love using them to illuminate the eyes. Having worn them both wet and dry to create a natural daytime look or a night time smokey eye, I love how long lasting they are especially when paired with an eyeshadow primer.

I had high hopes for the eyeliner, but when I saw its shade I instantly knew I wasn't going to get along with it. The Make Me Beautiful Brown Liquid Eyeliner* (£8) is streaky and not pigmented enough; yes it's long lasting but I don't think it is worth the price tag and you are probably better off with a drugstore alternative.

Having said that, their lip products wowed me and I find myself constantly reaching for the Make Me Beautiful Simply Peach Lipstick* (£8). This lippie combines a luxurious, velvety texture and high colour pay off, as well as a semi-matte finish. Unlike other mattes I have tried in the past, this glides onto lips creating a high coverage and flawless finish, and it is non-drying containing a blend of natural plant waxes and oils to help moisturise lips. The shade itself is stunning and perfect for my pale skin and for spring.

The Make Me Beautiful Midnight Plum Lip Chubby(£8) on the other hand provides a glossy finish and I love how pigmented this stuff is despite its finish. The above swatch is from a single swipe and as you can really see that the colour payoff is quite brilliant. The shade is something I have tons of in my make-up collection already but I definitely see myself reaching for this during the colder months as it provides the rich moisture I long for during autumn/winter.

And lastly, their Nail Colour Collection Polishes*. I am extremely picky when it comes to polishes so I didn't think these were going to impress me but I'm happy to have been proved wrong. For me, they aren't polishes to be worn on their own given they are of low coverage, but the glitter in these is the perfect touch when added on top of other shades. They aren't exceptionally long lasting but not bad either. These two particular shades don't seem to be available on their website but you can see all nail products here.

All in all, I think the Make Me Beautiful range is a good addition to the market and it proves that stores' own brands can be just as good as drugstore, albeit a few products. Next's in particular has hit the nail on the head when it comes to shadows and lipsticks, but could do better when it comes to liners and nail products! Can't say much for the rest of the collection, but would love to try a few highlighters and brushes to see how they perform.

What are your thoughts on stores' own make-up lines? Have you tried any of these?
Let me know below beauties!

Thanks for reading and have a lovely weekend ahead!

xoxo

  13. It's good to know that you had a great experience with most of the products but what a shame with the eyeliner. The swatch looks really pretty but if you can't make it work then it's useless regardless how pretty the shade is.

  31. Mmmm, dear Pam... I read the post with interest - I loved the eyeshadows, but you said they are not the most pigmented ones you have, though with a primer, why not. I would like to try, I really loved one color in particular. As for the Make me beautifil Plum lip chubby, I also would like to try, because you said it's good, moisturizing. The nail polishes would be great as well, since I love glitter! But I wanted to try a brown eye liner - a bit difficult to find, in brown.... but since you said it's not worth, I will believe you :) Hope you are having a very nice weekend!
