Petal Power: Beating The Januray Blues

Despite being an important month for me with so many birthdays, including my own, January tends to be quiet and long. It seems that we are all trying to get back that "real life" rhythm which proves incredibly hard after you've had a nice couple of days off work for the holiday season. February isn't much different even though in theory the month should feel shorter, emphasis on the "in theory". And, to make it all worse (especially for us a bloggers), days are shorter and daylight is nearly non-existent, the sun is continuously hiding behind grey clouds and we are fighting below zero temperatures in the early hours on our work commute. Lovely isn't it? #Sarcasm: just one of the many services I offer.

Yes, I'm feeling blue. I think that I speak for everyone when I say that what makes all of these somewhat better is shopping, eating (more like stuffing your face; diet who?), awards season and, lots of pretty and cute things.  Even better, if you are anything like me, what really helps is some petal power, I'm talking flowery clothes, accessories, homeware and of course, actual flowers. Remember when I spoke about wearing Florals For Winter here, that is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about. Not only flowers effectively cheer me up, they are perfect to brighten up the space around you and get us in that Spring mood. Say goodbye to dark days, hello to blooming lovelies.

Lamp // Watch // Orchid // Diary // Ring // Earrings // Frame // Tea Set // Dress // Cushions
Give spring an early nod and fly in the face of those gloomy winter nights by brightening up your living room, wardrobe and pretty much anything else; be gone dark days! If flowers can't beat those New Year blues, I don't know what will.

A/W 2015/16 Trends: Winter Floral Dress

Can you wear floral in the fall? YES, YES, YES!

Summer style is full of brilliantly blooming floral designs that work for any warm weather occasion, whether you are off to a picnic, the beach or even a wedding. Sadly for us living on European soil, summer is now long gone and stores are all stocked up in cosy fall knits, which I do love but there is a side of me that envies the South American heat my family is currently enjoying. And even though things are to turn a lot colder in the next couple of months, one question that I get a lot is: do florals work for winter? Well, rest your fashion-addicted minds because yes they do! Florals shouldn't be kept hidden away until the sun shines brightly again. If you, like me, love your flowery patterns have no doubt that you do not need to part with your floral threads just because the weather outside is slightly more grey and chilly.

Sporting winter florals however does require a few rules of thumb to be kept in mind to make sure you aren't choosing seasonally unsuitable prints; stay away from playful summer patterns, neon or pastel! Instead make sure your outfit shows that you are well aware of the season change by choosing the right colour palette, the right fabric and appropriate accessories.

Keep in mind 5 Basic Tips:
1. As tempting as it may be to walk out of the house wearing that floral mini dress you loved in the summer, frostbite for fashion is a no-go. For warmth, opt for Long-sleeved pieces as an alternative, they will keep you cosy and trendy.
2. As I said before, stay away from neon or any other colours that “pop” too much. Reach for Deeper Shades, colours that scream fall and that will make a seasonal difference in your closet. Plum, burgundy, ebony and dim grey for example are key fall shades that work extremely well with floral prints.
3. Want to wear that floral skirt? No problem! Never underestimate the power of a good (may I add) pair of Tights under florals. This is my favourite tip because a simple pair of black tights can really change your summer staples into pieces that will work just as well through fall.
4. Layers are your best friend! A thick fisherman sweater, a wool scarf, or an oversized coat can transform a summery look into a fall-ready getup. And if in doubt, grab that leather jacket you've had for years, because if Ralph Lauren is layering floral looks for fall with leather outerwear, then so can you!
5.  To help transition your florals into winter, Accessories are a safe bet. OTK or ankle boots are hot this season, as are leather clutches and metal jewellery. These are sure to take you straight to fall chic mode and I bet you already have all of these things sitting in your closet.

And above all, Have Fun and make sure you are comfortable in what you are wearing. These are tips only, after all rules are meant to be broken, especially when it comes to fashion!

S/S 2015 Trends: Printed Maxi

Printed Maxis define summer and are shaping up to be a summer must have in every woman's closet. They elongate our figure, which is exactly what we want (especially if we are still working on our perfect summer body), they cover our worst bits (maybe those extremely pale legs due to the lack of sun) and best of all, they make us look stylish and casual.

When styled right, maxis take on a delicate yet elegant vibe that’s beautiful for summer, both day and night. However, with the great variety of prints and styles, a few tips are worth remembering to make sure we're wearing maxi dresses in the most flattering, stylish way possible.

For my petite beauties, you should choose a dress which is snug around the waist and you cannot go wrong with pairing it with pumps or wedges for that extra height. Small prints are your best friend and a V neck is something you should be going for as it shows more skin and, as a result of the two you will look taller!

On the other hand, for my plus size beautiful ladies, bigger prints are the way to go and darker colours will of course make you look leaner too. Oh, and make sure you go for wider straps; spaghetti straps can make your upper body look bigger, throwing off the balance that the maxi should bring to your figure.

With the above in mind, other tips for all of us include defining the waist with a belt to avoid looking boxy. And in the shoe department, open toe sandals and espadrille wedges can look great, so leave your boots and closed flats behind and opt for something airy and summery instead! Like this:

However you choose to embark on this maxi trend, have fun with the prints and make sure you feel nothing less than gorgeous in it. Accessorising correctly is also the key here; the dress I chose is mainly black and the print is minimalist but with the right accessories you can take your outfit to the next level of chic. With the wide splits down the sides, the dress felt sexy and flattering, exactly what I was going for. An outfit that screams boho chic is always a winner for me, and this left me feeling beautiful and trendy. Cannot wait to wear this dress around the city some more, if the sun ever decides to make an appearance again, and at the beach on my upcoming summer holiday.

See you beauties soon!
