5 Good Habits I've Picked Up During Quarantine

Quarantine hasn't been all bad. Granted I've missed shopping trips and seeing friends, but I've come to thoroughly enjoy being at home, making the most of what we have and being thankful for every single moment spent together, watching a show or trying out a new recipe. With quarantine, a few things naturally changed for me and I've ended up picking up a few habits which in my opinion have done a lot of good for my well-being, both physically and mentally and I wanted to share these with you today. Let me know if you can relate to any!

1. I'VE GONE MAKE-UP FREE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS
Prior to lockdown, you would not see me out of the house with a complete make-up free face. I of course still love make-up and I genuinely cannot wait to be able to go out and put on a full face. But lately, I've freed myself from absolutely having to put even if a little make-up on to just be able to step outside of the house. Now, I even get on video calls for work without a drop of the stuff. A little moisturiser in the morning after my shower, and a lip balm goes as a long way and it's enough to make me feel super good about myself and happy in my skin. I no longer feel insecure to the point that I have to put anything else on, especially concealer since my under eyes are naturally pretty dark. I also no longer straighten my hair every day (and what a difference it has made to my hair!) and my brows have finally grown back to what they once were (before the over plucking). I've embraced the natural me and I’m loving the way I look, even without a trace of  make up!

2. I'VE INCREASED MY INTAKE OF FLUIDS
Working from home sometimes feels like a lot more work than being the office. You often forget to take breaks, to eat, to drink or even stretch a little. Thanks to Waterdrop, I've received this gorgeous Limited Edition Water Bottle* and a bunch of their Microdrinks* that taste amazing and really boost my days (my favourite drink has to be the relax drink, so good!). I've always drank a fair amount of water per day, but with these, I'm sipping back a lot more, which has definitely improved my overall well-being. I love a good flavoured water drink and these have been a hit not just with me, but with my husband as well. Apart from giving my skin a well-deserved break from make-up, my increased water intake have worked wonders for my skin health. I'm no longer tired all the time, and I can also sleep better! Water, at the enough daily amount, can do wonders for your health.

3. I'VE STARTED CLEANING ALL OF MY GROCERY SHOPPING
And Amazon parcels, and anything else that comes in really. I've always been an online food shopper, and with the virus going around, the advice was to give everything a wash or a wipe with some anti-bac. I've found the Milton Sterilising Tablets to be the best when it comes to cleaning my shopping. You simply dilute one tablet in approximately 500ml of water for a super potent cleaning solution. Even if the virus goes away, or a vaccine comes out, I think it makes perfect sense to keep this up. If you think about it, you do not know where your food has been or who's touched it. Cleaning, washing, wiping everything not only makes sense for this quarantine time, but it will be something I will do for life, Monica clean style!

4. I'M BAKING AND COOKING A LOT MORE
Anyone else totally guilty of ordering way too many takeaways? Granted, I worked 10 hours in an office, so when I got home I had little to no energy to be cooking a full meal every day. But, being at home I've come to really enjoy trying out new recipes (I've even posted a few on my Instagram, check it out here). First few weeks of lockdown meant a lot of different cakes and high calories recipes, but as we saw those kilos pile up, I've now switched us to a more low carb diet, and I'm loving finding recipes, trying them out (even if some suck), putting together my ultimate recipe book and updating my kitchen utensils/tools. Some of my favourites have been low carb bread, low carb passion fruit mousse, and beef and mushroom risotto (which is on the fattier side but once a week it's allowed). I would be more than happy to post some recipes on here so you can try them too so just let me know! Needless to say, we won't be going back to takeways every week, but instead discovering new recipes and cooking them ourselves will be our new norm; it's so much more fun!

5. I'VE STOPPED WATCHING THE NEWS
I still read some headlines to keep up to date with what's going on in the world. But, especially during the first weeks of quarantine, constantly watching the news had a real negative effect on me mentally. The recurrent negative and scaremongering stories, the number of deaths and cases on the rise, consumed me in a way I didn't think was possible. It added pressure and made me feel suffocated at times, with far too much information coming at me all at once. I could barely keep up so turning off the news and switching the channel to something lighter and more positive was the best thing I did. I've learned to appreciate the good in the bad, focusing on the positive instead and being thankful for all things we have. This is a daily reminder for me, but a good habit I definitely want it to stick.

What about you, have you tried anything new this quarantine?
I'd love to hear from you in the comments section below.

  10. Great habits! I've noticed positive changes too: I use social media a lot less, my skin is free from makeup too. However, my sleep patterns have changed and not for the better, so I still have things to work on.
