I may have an addiction when it comes to foundations as I am always looking for the next one to purchase even though I have bottles upon bottles of the stuff from various brands sitting on my dressing table. But one foundation that is widely hyped in the blogging world and one I had yet to try is the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation, best know for its lasting power and amazing coverage. I've had this on my radar for months but its hefty price tag and lack of pump were amongst the things that were always putting me off. However, I recently realised I had over £30 in Boots points so I finally took the plunge and splurged them all on this beauty and I am so glad I did. In short, it has become my go-to foundation when I want great coverage and longevity.
For years, my favourite premium foundation has been the Urban Decay Naked Skin and quite frankly I never thought another would top it. But ,when the nice counter assistant matched me to shade 1N2 Ecru and showed me how well only a few drops covered my entire face, I was in love. 1N2 has neutral undertones, despite my skin always being matched to warm toned foundations, and I can honestly say I've never experienced such a perfect match before. I am so glad I got my skin matched before purchasing it because if I had chosen the shade by myself I would have gone for something warmer and that would have been a big mistake and waste of money. There are almost 30 shades to choose from, from cool tones, to warm and neutral shades so make sure you get matched up.
I mentioned how little product it takes to give me full coverage, and I really mean it. With this, less is definitely more; it even covers my dark circles well which in turn makes me use less of my expensive concealer...massive win! And even though coverage is full from the first application, I don't feel like it cakes nor looks too unnatural. I like applying it with a damp sponge, finishing off with my trusty RT buffing brush for that natural look ideal for daytime.
And whilst coverage is great, my favourite part has to be how long it lasts on my combination/oily skin. Admittedly, I haven't worn it for 15 hours (the claimed lasting power) but I can honestly say that unlike other foundations I have, this does not leave behind a horrible oily t-zone and a patchy finish after 10 hours of work. In fact, it does not oxidise on my skin throughout the day, doesn't sit on fine lines around my lips nor does it transfer onto my clothes.Yes, it is a somewhat heavy finish foundation but it feels incredibly lightweight on my skin.
Now I wish my review would end there but sadly this does have a few negatives too. Firstly, it has no pump and that is really annoying especially for the price you pay for it. High end make-up brands (yes I am looking at you too MAC) really need to stop being stingy and just provide us with pumps already instead of getting us to purchase it separately. Pumps save time and product, and doesn't leave the bottle looking like a hot mess after a few uses; refer to picture above.
Additionally, despite having combination skin I do suffer from dry patches around my chin and I am afraid this highlights them quite a bit. With this in mind, I have to remind myself that if I want to use this I need to exfoliate, moisturise and prime well before application.
All in all, I am glad I finally got my hands on this foundation. At first I wasn't sure if I should have blown all my points on it, but the more I use it the more I fall for it. It is not a perfect foundation but it comes pretty close to that. The longevity for oily skin and coverage outweigh its lack of pump and non-matte finish and I can honestly say that I would happily repurchase this making it very much worth the hype in my opinion.
The Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation retails for £30, has SPF 10 and comes in 30 or so shades so you are definitely bound to find your match.

Parece ser uma base muito boa! E o facto de não deixar a pele oleosa, mesmo depois de algum tempo, é ótimo! Preciso de algo assim na minha vida eheh

I have some points building up on my points card too, the more they add up though, the less I want to spend them strangely enough. This foundation sounds good though and sounds like it was worth using your points on. I can see how the no-pump thing could quickly get messy but I guess there are always pros and cons to different products.

I absolutely love this foundation! This works the best for me and my skin :)
ReplyDeleteThis foundation seems amazing! I think I'll purchase it if my skin gets oily although I doubt that because of my medications, so I need all the glow I can get!

Hi, dear Pam! That's a great, really very good review! I have dry skin or dry patches, in fact, and I also noticed that this foundation makes them drier, if that is possible. I like it very much, as well, and agree about the lack of pump. But yes, very good coverage and light at the same time. I don't wear it everyday, so it's OK with the dry patches. Moisturising is the answer, yes :) So good to have Boots points, they are always so handy! Hope you have a great week!

That so true some amazing foundations from mac and nars do not have pumps which is annoying! nice post girl :) gonna pit this in my wish list :3
ReplyDeleteI've definitely used this foundation before and loved it! I had to stop using it through because eventually my skin started to prefer something lighter. Great review!

This is one of my favourite foundations! I'm more surprised when brands put a pump on their foundations as all my favourites seen to come without one!

Not having a pump is the bain of my life and I hate it but I still want to try this as I have oily skin and acne so I love the sound of the coverage xxxx
ReplyDeleteI kinda have the same skin problem, but the opposite. My skin is dry but it get's oily during the day. I'm not a fan of thick foundations though, so I'm staying away from this one. I do love the Estee Lauder bb cream though, it's a great product.

This is actually a foundation I've had my eyes on for a while, but like you I'm not ready yet to give up that much money. But I've heard great reviws on this product and knowing you like it despite it's negative sides, makes me want it even more.
ReplyDeleteAlso think that it's a great excuse to make sure you exfoliate, I know that it's hard to remember to do it twice a week, especially when there's work and life, and so many others things. I know that I forget it at times! But because you love this, you'll make sure to do it more often!

I got colour-matched and trialled a sample pot. It was pretty good, but I found it a bit hard to blend? Maybe I should try the damp sponge method too! :)

I worked for an Estee Lauder company for a while and fell in love with this foundation during that time! I loveee this one, but I have combo-oily skin, so maybe that's why too! Hahah, love your beautiful blog!

Oooh I have oily/combination skin as well! I refrain from wearing foundation too often, so I don't know if it'd be worth it to splurge on this. It sounds amazing though!
ReplyDeleteThe Dragonfruit Diaries
Loved this review Pam, definitely agree with everything that you said! I absolutely love Estée Lauders' Double Wear foundation! It's my favourite high-end one at the moment, because it just lasts on my skin. I really struggle to find one that actually does, so this is a definite fave. Although when I first tried it, I wasn't sure how it was going to dry on the skin - as it's very liquidy. But then it dries into a beautiful soft matte, which I love.:)

This used to be my holy grail foundation! The coverage is simply amazing and I think this is one of the best foundations for shade selection. My Jamaican friend often has trouble finding a decent colour match, but I took her to the Estée Lauder counter in Boots, Bond Street and she was really impressed and made a purchase! I agree that it works wonders for oily skin, but is also fine for my combination skin. I find that I don't use this as often now, because it breaks up a little on the end of my nose and on my forehead. I also get told how pale I look quite a lot when I wear this, though every Estée Lauder counter in the South East has reaffirmed my colour match! It's still a firm favourite though :)

ive heard such wonderful things about this foundation. The no pump thing is almost a deal breaker for me. Sucks that it highlights dry patches. Guess ill try it in the spring when ive got some better moisture.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to find a foundation that sits well on my face but it looks like I've just found it here, Pam. The Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation sounds amazing! Really such a shame about the pump but I'd give this a try any day. The coverage sounds amazing!

I heard so many great things of this foundation, and I'm really thinking of trying it, too :D At the moment my daytime foundation is the L'oreal indefectible and for special occasions or party time I LOVE the mac stuido fix, but that one is expensive too...I'm happy it has a seperate pump (although it was anoying to buy it in addition to the product!!!)

This way even if the liquid gets onto dry areas of your face, the results will not be very dramatic in terms of more dryness. Website link
