Last spring we saw a rise of Ruffles and frills on the catwalk as well as on the high street and I spoke about the trend previously here. This spring it is back and gutsiest than ever which is great news for ruffles lover me. For instance, Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen showcased ruffles in black leather embroidered and printed with Scottish roses, which sound just as stunning as they were. Erdem, Preen, Jacquemus and 3.1 Phillip Lim were also among the number of designers keen on the style, each bringing a different take on it. But one thing they all had in common was that there is something about ruffles that seemed perfectly Victorian. I love the exaggerated leaves in garments, the ruffled high neck, ruffles along the collar bone...which is why when I saw this gorgeous denim shirt with excessive ruffling detailing and this throat-constricting neckline, I knew it had to mine. As soon as I spotted this shirt I knew I was onto something. Not only have I worn this a couple of times already (I only got it last week!) but I strongly believe this will be my go-to shirt in the upcoming sunny season! Let's see how I paired it!
I mean just look at those sleeves, aren't they gorgeous?! What I love about this shirt is that it is much more fun than an usual denim shirt. I have one of those in my wardrobe and whilst it would have looked great with this outfit too, this shirt adds so much detail making it perfect for a spring look. I got this shirt at Primark for a mere £12 (here) and I've seen a very similar offering at Topshop for £39, so a bargain find or what!
To go with the shirt, I got some inspiration from Olivia Palermo and Sincerely Jules. Whilst not exactly groundbreaking, the style set are teaming leather skinnies with denim shirts for casual-cool outfits and that's what I was looking for a lunch date on Sunday. Leather and denim are staples on their own, but put hem together and you've got yourself a go-to outfit that will work for pretty much any season and any occasion.
Accessorising a look has to be my favourite part of dressing up and you can only imagine my excitement when I saw that Fuchsia is set to be a huge come spring. You've seen this Michael Kors bag of mine a hundred times on the blog, but with the sunshine shining more brightly and often nowadays, expect to see it even more!
When it comes to rocking this pop of colour, think pink but not your usual spring pale pink or dusty rose. The Paris catwalks dictated fuchsia as the colour to bet on, as displayed at Topshop, in pointed stilettos, at Bottega Veneta, in hot pink leather, as well as Hermés, Valentino and Balenciaga. It is an incredibly striking colour to wear, perfect for when you want something extra! Whilst I'm happy to take my cross-body bag out for a spin, I definitely want to try a few daring colour combinations with fuchsia. As seen at Balenciaga, hot pink was paired with purple and Brazilian fashion blogger at NYFW Camila Coelho wore a pink and red outfit, colours I never would have thought of putting together!
Denim Shirt: Primark (here) // Leather Skinnies: Matalan (similar here) Bag: Michael Kors // Slip-ons: Zara (similar here) |
I finished off the outfit with my Zara patches slip-ons because comfort and Sunday dates just go hand in hand.

I do like ruffles, but not on myself. Does that make sense? I feel i am not a ruffles kind of person.

ReplyDeleteI am so confused with the subscription, dear Pam, because it didn't deliver me this post! Then this Monday I thought "can't believe Pam is having a week" and voila! Here's a post that was not delivered :( But OK, I now saw it and I loved the ruffled top, so beautiful - no wonder you think it'll be your close friend :) I loved it with the sporty shoes and the beautiful fuchsia bag! You look always very beautiful and I loved your hair, too! And April is arriving... :) Hope you have a very amazing week, dear Pam!
