Portobello Market Treat: Pix Pintxos Bar in Notting Hill

One of the perks of being a blogger is being invited to events, to try different things and by different things I obviously mean food. When I first started blogging I never thought I'd branch out and venture into writing restaurant reviews or anything remotely similar for that matter. But you know what they say, you won't know whether you like it or not until you try and now that I've tried it, I can safely say I bloody love it. Which is why, when citizenMag reached out offering me to try one of their recently reviewed eateries around London I didn't think twice. Presented with a multitude of choice, I picked the very unique Pix Bar in Notting Hill, and off we went to try it out.

I had never been to Portobello Market before so when I noticed the restaurant was located on Portobello Road itself I got even more excited; what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than munching on some yummy tapas followed by shopping?! Pix Pintxos Bar is located a mere 5-minute walk from Notting Hill station but if you're ever in Soho, Convent Garden or Carnaby, they have some branches there too. We were greeted by kind staff, and the vibrant atmosphere as well as being in one of London's most iconic location certainly gave the place a cool, edgy vibe with its stunning décor and details. The bar being is quite small and only holds a few tables, which is why is booking in advance is always a good idea.

Inspired by the pintxo (pronounced peen-chos, meaning thorn or spike) bars of Barcelona and San Sebastian, Pix is a miniature tapas eatery. Snacks are held together by a skewer and served in a shot glass, ramekin dish or on crusty bread, and you can easily see the range of food from outside across the bar which is at the front of the restaurant (making it even more inviting). There's no menu or ordering involved (apart from drinks); you simply walk in, ask for a table, and off you go with your plate to help yourself to the selection of dishes displayed across the bar. The system is very simple, tapas with a longer skewer are priced at £3.25 and those with shorter ones priced at £2.25. The fiancé and I tried a good range of both, including meatballs in tomato sauce, prosciutto crudo, sausage skewers and patatas bravas, which were among our favourite dishes. The selection of tapas was quite impressive, ranging from both savoury and sweet, hot and cold, and every 5 minutes or so out came more food from the kitchen, including meat dishes and vegetarian options.

We didn't order any drinks (as we are currently trying to avoid any soft drinks and non-fresh fruit juices) but the wine and cocktail list was extremely extensive so you're bound to find something you like. After having tried what seemed like every possible tapas available we unanimously came to a conclusion; every dish we sampled as well put together, tasty and despite being smaller than your usual starter, it was just the right size as it meant we could try one of each without the guilt. Good things come in smaller packages!

All in all, Pix offered a wide variety of delights with no waiting around, no menus and no need to imagine what the dish would look like as it was all laid out in front of me, which made for the perfect dining out place. Even the boyfriend, who can be quite picky when it comes to trying out new things, absolutely adored the food and the experience and already wants to come back. So if you're ever in the area looking for a quick yet delicious treat, I would highly recommend checking Pix Bar out as you won't be disappointed!

  10. Dear Pamela, first of all I will answer something soon - you are so sweet, I have no words to thank myself! Then about Pix Bar - I love Portobello, I love pintxos and I am used to eat pintxos since childhood - at least 6 times a week :) Because of my Basque and Spanish family. I love going to pintxos bar and I am sure that this one is fantastic! The photos are fantastic, the food looks good and I am sure it was a great time! Hope you have a very nice week, dear Pam!

  11. I recently went to a tapas restaurant called La Farola in Angel not far from my house, but before that I'd had misconceptions about tapas because of an unknowing experience years before. I'm a big eater so I was deceived lol. But after knowing what I was getting into with La Farola, I loved it and I didn't leave feeling overly full.
So after seeing all of that delicious food from Pix Pintxos, I am there lol.

  27. I have never been to Portobello market, I need to fix that. There are so many gorgeous buildings in that area, I would probably spend a day admiring the architecture. If I do go there soon, I`ll make sure to visit this restaurant.
