Wedding Drama: The 5 Stages of Wedding Planning

As some of you may know I'm getting married next year, more specifically in April 2017 giving us just under a year to plan the entire thing. In my head, planning a wedding was always going to be so much fun. I would imagine myself creating endless wedding boards with all the pretty decor I wanted for the big day and that getting every piece and putting them together would be rather simple because I'd be organised and know exactly what to do next. Whilst some of that is true, I've come to realise that despite being really happy about being engaged and marrying the person I love the most, wedding planning was making me pull out all of my hair and stress big time. Before speaking to a few contacts and hiring a few people to help (best decision I've ever made), I had several hilarious breakdowns aka the 5 stages of wedding planning and I thought I'd share them with you guys!

DENIAL

"I am fine, I can do this!". Constantly reminding myself that wedding planning couldn't possibly be as hard as everyone said; I didn't really know what the fuss was all about! I told myself I could totally do this alone and that I didn't need help; I mean how hard could it actually be?!

FRUSTRATION

Looking at 100 different venues and realising they are all just as expensive as the next one. How do people actually pay for this stuff? AND, how does one decide who to invite and who to leave out when the venue only holds 100 seated guests for the ceremony and your list is nearing 150?

BARGAINING

£79 per meal per head + VAT? Are you having a laugh? I've just spent £1000 more than expected on my dress; MUST make cuts! Forget the fancy 3 course meal, the pretty canapés and most importantly the very costly (and not at all necessary) alcohol and let's do a simple buffet instead. Maybe sandwiches would be ok?

DEPRESSION

This wedding is already costing more than a down payment for an apartment and I haven't even hired the photographer, bought the cake or thought about wedding favours. Do we really need wedding favours though? Why should WE be buying gifts for guests? Is it too late to elope?

ACCEPTANCE

If you're stressing, whether it's planning a wedding or for a party, ask for help and if the budget allows for it, hire a professional planner! I've selected a few trustworthy people to help out with organisation both prior and for the day and, a huge weight has definitely been lifted off my shoulders. And even so, I know a few things here and there will go wrong on the big day, but that's ok! I've been waiting for this and I want nothing to steal our happiness on the big day - Dear Lord please don't let any babies cry during my video! Thank you, amen.

Have you planned a wedding before? Any tips for me?
Let me know below. Hope this got a laugh out of you :)

Wishing us all a nice weekend ahead!

xoxo

  3. Haha, ahh, Pam, I LOVE how honest you are about the whole sitch. I'm 18 and don't plan on getting married, so I'm pretty much safe from all these scenarios, haha. And don't worry, I laughed at this one. That aside, I'm wishing you massive luck and all the best with the wedding planning; I'm sure it's going to be spectacular! x

  9. Oh gosh, Pam, I love how you shed a light on the whole frustrations with humour. Wedding planning can be extremely stressful and expensive. I'm not sure how it's done here but a few of my friends back in Malaysia had to take loans because they wanted a huge extravagant celebration and am still paying the loan two years after marriage. It's crazy! I think marriage should be a celebration of love and not go over your head and by the sounds of it, you got it together. xx

  10. Aww bless ya cotton socks. I remember these stages all to well. Well and truly glad that's over LOOL. You will be absolutely fine hun. I only cracked the day before and broke down in tears. I think all the frustration built up till that moment but it all went fine. Money is the biggest issue if you're not rolling in it lool. All the best hun.

  13. I have planned two weddings. For the first one I hired a wedding planner, which was the best decision ever. And the second was so small and unplanned that it wasn't much to do.
Good luck! Everything will be fine in the end.

  26. I planned my own wedding 5 years ago, got married in Sorrento (July 2011), and since I live far from there I had to plan also hotel stay for relatives and friends and everything without being there all the time to check, but I made it. It's sure a nerve wrecking experience but it's also fun and you're gonna miss it ! Kisses

  31. I'm planning my wedding in only 9 months and I'm the complete opposite to you! I've found it really easy, albeit very expensive! We've just cut out all the stuff we feel we don't need, like speeches and fancy meals etc and just gone back to basics so that we can have nice venues and I've picked things I can do myself for much cheaper. I decided to get fake flowers and managed to get all of the bridesmaids and my bouquet for less than £40!!! I'd really recommend shopping around and Pinterest is defo really handy!!

  32. Aww, good luck and congratulations. I think I had to do practically nothing for my wedding except go where ever my parents asked me to come shop for. Be it Mumbai, Delhi and my home town. I was studying in another city that time. So I was just constantly traveling for shopping with my parents. And all the wedding preps (from decorations to dresses to jewelry) everything was so well taken care by my parents, specially my mom since she is a designer and runs a boutique. I feel so blessed :)
Hope you find everything perfect to make you special day beyond perfect.
